School has commenced….ugh!
what a hard week….trying to get back to structure. I know structure is a good thing, but it was a shock to our systems.
I won’t lie and say this was an easy first week back to Canne-academy……there certainly were no butterflies, unicorns or rainbowy kinda feelings…..
and I will confess that I was probably the most “unprepared” I have every been (official year 11) to start a new academic year.
But, we did….we started, one week under our belts with a super cute Preschooler, a Pre-K’er, a 4th grader, a 6th grader, an 8th grader and a newly turned HIGHSCHOOLER!!! what?? how can that be??? CRAZY!
Yes, some of us are still in their jammies…ahhhh, the benefits of learning from home. 😉
I do this “morning board: for Tahlia’s pre-K, it has calendar, weather chart, number chart etc. GREAT way to start the day! |
As hard as it is to bring some order to our chaos, I am so thankful to have my babies all home learning together…Its hard to believe that in just 4 years my oldest will be out in the real world. 🙁
I am thankful that I get to savor these last precious years with her at home. I am glad and grateful for the ability to just “slow down life”….
The kids did great this week…honestly, it was harder for this mama to get “her” head in the game. But, we did make some fun memories!! even though I didn’t feel quite prepared…at all…
You know what?
I am learning MORE and MORE that God is just so awesome when we feel SO incapable….. and He works, even through our weaknesses! He seriously carries you when you have only HIM to rely on, thats when miracles happen! And, boy was it a miracle to get through structured learning last week! ha!
Tahlia is doing My Father’s World Kindergarten so we started learning about Creation. This is an awesome curriculum! Some of my kids used it for an extra-long pre-k year….others used it for their awesome K year. I’ve tailored to fit our style. Regardless of when I started this precious curriculum, each time it has succeeded at woo’ing my children’s heart to the idea and fun and relational style of learning about Gods amazing world AT home from the kitchen table, couch, deck, porch, park, outside in nature. As opposed to drowning in homeschool workbooks. It’s a different approach. ….Each time it also serves to awaken this tired mama’s heart back up and get her fire re-ignited as another child gets folded into the awesome fun and chaos of home learning …seriously, it’s THAT precious of a curriculum.it calls out deep to the early childhood teacher in me….and best part: it’s easy!!!! You know I need easy. Even if I weren’t homeschooling I would still totally use it for it’s valuable biblical lessons that none of my kiddies have forgotten over the years!
As a family (for our all together table time) we are doing “Exploring Countries and Cultures” by My Fathers World. My kids have developed such a LOVE for God’s world, other nations, those that need HIS Gospel.
I see mighty missional hearts in these awesome kids of mine and I want to grab those hearts while they are hungry! I just want to “go with that” and really use that love of all nations to keep learning about GOD’s world…..
So, this year we are traveling all over the continents and we’re planning on digging deep into other cultures and having lots of cultural celebrations!
We will be world travelers right from our kitchen table!!
Everyone is excited!
Here are a few snapshots from our first week! It included a very sweet Creation snack that got everyone excited…(we all got to enjoy Tahlia’s Pre-K activity)
Gia staying busy!! ha, she cracks me up!
Tahlia creating her Creation book!
So there you have it! Nothing fancy! But WE did it!!
we made it through our first week….with more memories planned for next week.
Glad I got to document it here on the blog and i am hoping to document on a regular basis some of our homeschooling memories because we love to go back and reflect when our year is done!
….If only to post pictures….’cause there is no time in this mama’s life to put real photo albums together.
Praying that as the weeks go on, it will get easier and we get into a new normal and a new rhythm adjusting to having 6 sweet kiddies under the roof!
Not lying when I say it was HARD to get back to the books and back to structure… and this mama just may have had a few melt downs…ummm, yup!
But, it feels good to be officially “started school”….and to be challenging ourselves to get up to an actual alarm clock again! ha!
ahhhh, I do love teaching my babies at home.
And, as hard as it can get sometimes, the sweet moments far out weigh the hard ones.
….already planning our first field trip! (seeing the movie: Dolphin Tale 2)
Grateful for the gift of homeschooling…even when its hard. 🙂
