11:45pm So…..Gianna has been kept on the cooling blanket up till a couple hours ago and they are watching her closely to see if her fever spikes again. Praying for a no fever night so she can have a BIG day tomorrow moving forward! she is heavily sedated tonight as the goal is to let her heart REST…….and heal,
I do want to give some more info on her miracle surgery before I crash hard. I want you all to know how your prayers worked…..and how our GOD showed up! So, Dr. Emani was able to fit a good size mechanical valve into Gianna’s ventricle which is a HUGE answer to prayer. Now Gianna did have a biological valve last year and they are normally the better choice because your blood is less likely to clot ….
However, Gia’s heart rejected her BIOprosthetic valve and thus she had rejection tissue growth form on it which led to blood regurgitation and back up and higher pressures in her heart which then led to her failure.
So, the next best choice for her is manufactured mechanical because her body will be less likely to reject it. The prayer was that it would fit, and it did!!!
However, Gianna will need to be on major blood thinners (coagulants) forever. This will keep her blood from clotting and causing another failure. This will require a learning curve in the beginning as we learn how to monitor her blood for the right levels of clotting….as blood that is too thin will cause bleeding. She will need to get weekly blood draws to monitor….there will be a lifestyle change.but then it will become part of daily life as we adjust. We are just so grateful Gianna’s heart was saved!!!!
Another praise is that her heart pressures almost instantaneously decreased by a third once the new valve was placed, so her heart seems to agree so far
AND….the best praise of all, Dr, Emani said her heart muscle squeeze returned after pressures were dropped and seems strong which is GREAT NEWS ….as lack of heart muscle squeeze is a huge marker for if she would be down the road to heart transplant or not! We are thankful that GIanna’s heart is being restored!!!!!!! HUGE PRAISE!!!!
Also, Dr, Emani was not able to locate her holes that were seen on the cath. This is the one trivial piece that is left unknown as of now……If GIanna does not progress well over the next week, there is a chance she will need to go into the cath lab to further explore and possibly repair the holes.
Pray for fast healing and full restoration of her heart and lungs and NO infections or fevers so we can get her extubated tomorrow….pray for SUPER FAST recovery!!!!!

Daddy and the girls went home tonight so its just me and Gianna and we are pumped to make HUGE strides this week!!!
