She would never stop asking and we would never stop sharing The miraculous story of how God crashed all our hearts together in an explosion of joy. She would ask again and again to hear the love story of how Big her God is and how He uses even broken hearts to show his glory. Her story of brave, God’s story of bold love, and our story of loving her was her favorite to hear and will always be our favorite to share.
I specifically remember the night, before her gotcha day, rummaging through the box that held all her future gotcha day China treasures…the ones we bought in her province to give to her every year until she turned 18. And I saw this big beautiful red velvet box and I knew what God was saying:
“You HAVE to give her the porcelain tea set this year… Don’t wait… Don’t wait until she’s older!!
I always thought we would wait until she was much older so it wouldn’t get broken And could be more of a display piece for her shelf …not so much a play toy to get broken. (Gia was a bit clumsy
)
But God…
God spoke loudly and he said: “Even if it gets broken, still give it away!!”
Isn’t that what God tells us every day… “to give, to love, to jump..even if it breaks you.
Give your heart away, even if it could break into a million pieces.
I cannot tell you how thankful I am my God spoke loudly to my heart because she had never been more happier then in that moment when we gave her that beloved tea set. And I can’t imagine the grief I would feel right now, on top of the grief, had I not had this moment of joy to see her smile. And Yes! That tea set got very beat up over the next nine months BUT she had so much fun having tea parties in the family room on the blanket with all her family. THE MEMORIES ARE FOREVER. The Joy is unmatched.
Our GiaBia. She will forever teach us how to give of ourselves and not be afraid to be broken.
Love big even when it could break you.
Love like Jesus loves all of us…in all our messy brokenness.
The One who became broken to save us all.
